Long long ago there was a demon named as Shatghna. He was troubling people, Rushies and Gods. All these troubled people went to God Shiva and asked for his protection. When God Shiva listens to the cruelty of Demon Shatghna, God Shiva was very much angry, fire came out of his mouth and Kalbhairav appeared from the fire and helped the people, Rushies and Gods by destroying Demon Shataghna. This stotra is in praise addressed to Kalbhairav. The creator in this Stotra says that Kalbhairav is beyond the description of four Vedas. He (Kalbhairav) is Nirguna (without any roop or form), Nirnkush (having lot of power and with no resistance), Niranjan and Nirantar (always, anytime present). He has no start, middle or end. He has got all knowledge which is like a lamp for the people to remove the darkness and gain the knowledge. He has engulfed the world but still he is not attached to it. He is the king of Ghosts. Please always remember Harihareshwaradhinath (Protector of Harihareshwar) Kallbhairav. He has jata (long hair) of his head and having a necklace of heads of demons around his neck. His dress is very different. He has diamond foot wear which are more lustrous that hundreds of Suns light. Please always remember Harihareshwaradhinath (Protector of Harihareshwar) Kallbhairav. Sun, Moon and Fire (Agni) are his three eyes. His body is like the color of evening and his throat is blue in color. He destroys all sins of his devotees. Please always remember Harihareshwaradhinath (Protector of Harihareshwar) Kallbhairav. He is destroyer of fear and false knowledge of his devotees. He is there since ancient times. He is the cause of the universe. He helps his devotees to live fearlessly in this world (Sansar). He is always there, he is very kind. Please always remember Harihareshwaradhinath (Protector of Harihareshwar) Kallbhairav. He is always helpful to the devotees in their work. He is caretaker of devotees. He is very calm and quite. His devotees can see him anytime. Please always remember Harihareshwaradhinath (Protector of Harihareshwar) Kallbhairav. He is always present. He destroys all the troubles of his devotees. Great Muni Narad and other Yogis always bow to him. Please always remember Harihareshwaradhinath (Protector of Harihareshwar) Kallbhairav. Finally the creator of this stotra says that anybody who reads this Kalbhairavashtak three times a day becomes fearless, happy and prosperous. He receives all the pleasures in this life and after the end of life becomes free from bondage of life and death. Kalbhirav always give everything desired to such devotees. The devotee poet says I am a very meager servant of Kalbhairav. I bow to his feet.

श्री गणेशाय नमः । श्री कालभैरवाय नमः । 

श्री शिवांशपूर्ण आदि मध्य अंत ज्या नसे, 

बाह्य जया नसे उपाधि चार गर्जती असे । 

निर्गुणा निरंकुशा निरंजना निरंतरा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ १ ॥ 

विश्र्वसुत्रचालका असंख्य लोक पालका, 

ज्ञान दीपका अनादि धर्म मार्ग रक्षका । 

व्यापूनी स्थिराचरा अलिप्त जो सदा खरा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ २ ॥ 

 भूतनायका कृतांत कर्म दर्प नायका, 

शूल दंड जो धरी करी पिनाककार्मुका । 

भीमविक्रमा प्रचंड शक्ती धारका परा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ ३ ॥ 

यच्छिरी जटा गळ्यांत भक्तरुंडमालिका, 

रत्नपादुकापदीं विचित्र वेषधारका । 

यत्प्रकाश दिपवी अनंतकोटी भास्करा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ ४ ॥ 

 इंदुमित्र वन्हिनेत्र तीन ज्या त्रिलोचना, 

 शामकाय निळकंठ मोहजाळ मोचना । 

घोरपापसंहार अशा शशांक शेखरा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ ५ ॥ 

भ्राति भीती नाशना भुजंग भस्मभूषणा, 

आदिकारणा भवाब्धितारणा सनातना । 

अक्षया निरामया दयाकरा दिगंबरा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ ६ ॥ 

भक्तकार्य कल्पवृक्ष दक्ष भक्तरक्षणी, 

नित्य साक्ष सोज्वलाक्ष शुद्ध शांत जो क्षणीं । 

भक्तवत्सला स्वभक्तभाव दृष्टिगोचरा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ ७ ॥ 

शाश्र्वता अनादि दैवता त्रिताप हारका, 

श्रांत वर्णिता फणीन्द्र चारही तशी सहा । 

नारदादि योगिवंद्द वंद्दही सुरासुरा, 

श्री हरेश्र्वराधिनाथ कालभैरवा स्मरा ॥ ८ ॥ 

वाचितां त्रिकाल नेम कालभैरवाष्टका, 

प्राप्त होय भुक्ति मुक्ति सत्य नीत पाठका । 

इच्छितार्थ दे समर्थ साह्यहो पदोपदी, 

 दास मी मलीन लीन भैरवाचि या पदी ॥ ९ ॥ ॥ 

इति कालभैरवाष्टक संपूर्ण ॥
